Mr and Mrs Hardy came to us for bespoke built-in wardrobes with individual style for their family’s bedrooms. The couple, who have four sons, were building a completely new high-spec family home. Professional builders themselves, they wanted to create a beautiful house with the finest luxury fixtures and fittings.

When planning three of their sons’ bedrooms, they wanted the fitted furniture to be unique and bespoke for each room. Mr and Mrs Hardy were keen for the boys to be part of the design process. At Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery, we agree that involving your children in the creative planning gives them a real sense of ownership and greater enjoyment of their space.

The sons, Jack, David and Ralph, each had different views about how they wanted their wardrobes to look and function. So, the design team at Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery worked closely with the whole family to develop their ideas. The result was these three distinctly beautiful bespoke built-in wardrobes, which portray individuality yet work cohesively with the overall style of the house.

Jack’s and David’s bedrooms have sloping ceilings, so bespoke built-in wardrobes were particularly important to maximise every inch of storage space. Read more about bespoke fitted wardrobes for sloping ceilings

Jack’s made to measure built-in wardrobes

Jack Hardy wanted a modernist style for his built-in wardrobes. We achieved his desired contemporary look with minimalist handle-less doors featuring a recess groove cut into the doors and drawer fronts for easy opening. The geometric square pattern gives the wardrobe a striking edge.

Jack chose Light Grey (RAL 7047) for the doors and drawer fronts. We added Dust Grey (RAL 7037) to the shadow gap which gives the door design a striking definition.

RAL is a coding system to define colours. There are now over 2,000 RAL colours to choose from. We provided the family with a range of RAL colour swatches so they could compare and choose their perfect shade.

For the interior of these built-in wardrobes, we used Egger Natural Lancaster Oak, which matches the oak detailing featuring throughout the Hardy’s house.

Ralph’s bespoke built-in wardrobes

Ralph Hardy wanted a bold, more colourful alternative to grey for his built-in wardrobe and chose Dulux Stonewashed Blue. This shade of denim blue has become a sought-after shade in interior décor. The trims, plinth and centre section are all made from a solid oak veneer. The combination of blue with natural oak creates a wonderfully rich, timeless look.

Natural oak is also exceptionally sturdy, hardwearing and easy to look after. Its warm, honey tones feel pleasing and comfortable in a bedroom setting.

David’s custom made built-in wardrobes

David Hardy’s built-in wardrobe design has a more traditional look. The doors have been crafted in a classic Shaker style and painted in Dulux Heritage Quartz Grey. Check out this Dulux guide to find your perfect shade of grey.

Bespoke wardrobe interiors for every child’s needs

Each of the boy’s bespoke built-in wardrobes are individually tailored to house their clothes and belongings from gadgets to books and other treasured possessions. This customised storage reduces clutter, helps the child stay tidy and creates a more relaxing space for sleeping.

Durability and ease of use is also paramount for children’s fitted furniture. At Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery, we only use the best quality Blum ironmongery for ease of use. Every detail is crafted with smooth finishes with no sharp edges. When wardrobes are expertly handcrafted from the finest materials and built specifically for the space, they will be incredibly sturdy and stand the test of time.

“We are passionate about creating made to measure wardrobes of exceptional quality for children’s bedrooms. Handcrafted furniture may be more expensive than off-the-shelf pieces but our clients tell us bespoke built-in wardrobes are worth the investment in terms of style, functionality and longevity,” says Thomas Streeter, Managing Director, Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery.
