Bespoke Fitted Dark Oak Wardrobes | Westcott | Surrey
These solid bespoke fitted dark oak wardrobes were designed, crafted and installed by us for a client’s residence in the village of Westcott in central Surrey.
The wardrobes form an open, galley-style walk-in wardrobe in the bedroom, creating a luxurious, warm and sophisticated atmosphere. In a large room like this, the dark oak is a striking, grounding feature that adds depth and a classic aesthetic.
The floor-to-ceiling installation mimics high-end wall panelling with a strong architectural look. The structure has a dual-sided function, acting as a partition and the two parallel rows of cabinetry create a well-defined dressing corridor, with extensive internal storage such as hanging rails, custom drawers and adjustable shelves accessible from the dressing side.
The traditionally constructed built-in units were precisely crafted to perfectly fit the sloping ceiling with the made-to-measure design maximising every centimetre of space.
Dark, sophisticated stained oak wood
The cabinets are made from solid oak and immaculately finished in a black satin spray. The stain brings a consistent tone to the wood and showcases the unique natural unique beauty of the grain, while maintaining its tactile, organic quality.
The deep, rich tone achieves a more dramatic, “grown-up” alternative to lighter woods or white painted finishes. Darker timbers can exude a more high-end look and ‘old meets new’ character. The well-planned accent lighting also enhances the dark wood grain, making it look especially luxurious.
Traditionally crafted oak wardrobe doors and details
The wardrobe doors are made from solid, prime grade, sustainable European oak with an oak veneered panel. European oak is a dense, heavy hardwood that’s exceptionally strong and full of character with an attractive irregular wavy grain.
The traditionally crafted bead detailing creates a panelling effect and elevates the look of the doors. Custom-made oak handles enhance the durability and functionality of the furniture. Having a matching grain and colour make the handles look like a natural extension of the doors rather than an add-on and will age beautifully and consistently over time. Every detail has been carefully considered and adds to the high-end boutique look of these cabinets. Even the hinges (BlumOnyx) have a dark finish to ensure nothing detracts from the design.
Wardrobe interiors match the exterior
The wardrobe interiors feature a high-quality, natural oak veneer stained to match the finish of the doors. Having the same colour-matched premium finish inside and out gives the wardrobes a seamless and cohesive high-end look, as the external aesthetic continues when the doors are opened, without a change in material or colour. We fitted all the unit interiors with Hafele Loox lighting that comes on when the doors are opened. The interiors feature mixed storage including full-height hanging for dresses/coats, half-hanging for shirts, and custom-built shelving.
